FAQ

1. My contractor told me my roof was “10 big squares”. What is a big square?
In roofing terminology, a big square is equal to a 10 foot by 10 foot area OR 100 square feet. Every 100 square feet equals 1 big square. So, the area of your roof is 1000 square feet or 10 squares.

2. What is a ballpark figure for my project?
Every construction project is different. There are many different variables involved. The main one is credibility, attitude and happy customers .

3. Do you give free estimates?
Most contractors give free estimates, although they do charge for inspections. Call your contractor to see if you need an estimate or an inspection.

4. How do I know if I need a new roof?
Besides the obvious signs of leaking, you can look for cracked, damaged or missing shingles; deteriorated flashing; curling shingles; excessive shingle particles and granules in the gutters; and blistering
and splitting on built-up, asphalt flat roofs. All of this can be revealed in a thorough roof inspection.

5. Can I perform some of the labor for the project, such as tearing off the old roofing, to save money?
Some contractors will work under these conditions, some will not. The important thing to remember in this situation is that you (the homeowner/building owner) will assume all liability for workers and for
the water-tightness until the project is completed. This is a very big responsibility.

6. How can I find a good contractor?
Get recommendations from family and friends who have had a good experience with one. A good contractor will supply references, proof of insurance and proof of licensing. They could be member of the
Better Business Bureau and local trade organizations and would be in good standing with these organizations.

7. Do I need to supply anything for my project?
A reputable contractor should supply EVERYTHING for a completed construction project as spelled out in the written contract.

8. Can I buy my own shingles, windows or siding to save money?
It’s better to contract with someone you know and trust and let them supply the materials that they know and trust. A contractor can usually get a better price on material due to volume, than a
homeowner/building owner would when making a one time purchase.

9. Do you give discounts?
Due to the nature of the business, most contractors price as competitively as they can to get the job and a signed contract. Other than that, We do offer 10% Senior discount, and multiple project
discount.

10. I had a lot of ice build-up and icicles on my gutters last winter. What caused this?
This is caused by only two things–a lack of proper amounts of attic insulation and inadequate amounts of roof system ventilation.
